My name is Christopher Gonzalez, and I am a Ph.D. student in the Molecular and Evolutionary Systems Biology (MESB) program at the University of New Hampshire. This website is a means to share my passion for academic research and education with the general public, especially in the realms of genetics, evolution, and developmental biology.
Research Focus
As an evolutionary biologist, my research projects have been driven by my desire to understand how complex traits evolve. For example, how are the fascinating diversity of animal limbs developed in embryos? How did the senses of taste and smell, which are shared between us, fish, and even insects, evolved? I approach such questions primarily from a genetics and computer science perspective, and thus focus much of my research on working with gene sequences, computational programs, and assessments of gene expression. Please see my research pages for 3-minute explanations of these projects, visual graphics, and more!
Education
Ever since I began mentoring my undergraduate peers, I realized that there is little I find more rewarding than assisting others in their education. To that end I have worked as an adjunct teaching lecturer, and am pursuing a cognate (certificate) in College Teaching at UNH while obtaining my Ph.D. A major focus of mine is improving concept communication and learning experiences; to that end I have developed numerous guides in genetics topics, which can be found freely available in the resources tab.
